Gigapiss interview 10.21.22

Gigapiss is a 4 piece band that describes themselves as “Four trolls who found each other on the internet”. Despite never have meeting in real life, they plan to make more music together over the internet. I've asked Tommy [Guitarist] to talk a little bit about the band and how it works being all virtual. Tommy has a niche but popular Tik Tok account @tommyslommy69 which is known for videos on artists like Tenacious D and Weird Al.

About the band

The band first started out with Tommy recording guitar riffs from covid. The riffs are heavily influenced by bands such as iron maiden, primus, and death. “I met Jacob [bass], Jeff [drums], and adam [vocals] through Tiktok after Firebowl was out”. A playlist of songs and artist the band is inspired by can be found on their spotify.

The band plans to rerecord most of the songs off their first EP; Firebowl. “[we plan on] fleshing them out, [by] adding solos and lyrics. However, everyone working together virtually makes it harder for the band. “Definitely a struggle. None of us have the same schedule and time zones also suck”. Tommy also goes on to say that the band hasn't had a full rehearsal together since december of last year. “We really just send riffs and memes in the chat at the moment. Slowly but surely the next album is getting done in pieces”. This redux is something you're going to want to look out for!

Thoughts on the Firebowl EP

Many parts of Firebowl stand out. Moments such as the car crash on the track ‘Look Ma!’, and the song ‘A Water Balloon?’ caught the team off guard by referencing internet memes. “I tried taking it seriously but it got boring to me”. When nothing else seemed to work, Tommy went on to start “adding samples to put some flavor in the tracks”, and flavor it sure added to the songs. In a way, the samples grab the listener back in with breakdowns and more intense instrumentals. We hope it continues on in the redux.

Gigapiss has gained a handful of followers that found the band through Tommy’s tiktok. Unfortunately his band hasn't caught the attention of his full following of 13k. “I tried advertising the album and merch to the best of my ability but no one was biting”. If you or anyone you know follows Tommy on tiktok you've got to listen to his band, and make sure to keep a look out for the redux of the bands first EP; Firebowl!
